GETTING STUDENTS

How new coaches get their first paying students

Finding students is where most new swim instructors get stuck. On Swimpreneur™, that’s our job: we bring in the families, and you teach their children at condos near you.

Why a certificate isn’t enough

Most swim instructor courses end when you pass. You have the certificate, and then you have to find students yourself: posting online, asking friends and family, covering other coaches’ classes, competing on price. Plenty of capable coaches give up before they get going.

Our founder, Herron Ho, compares it to passing your driving test and then being given no car, no passengers and no directions.

The other option is to work for a swim school. That’s how Herron started, at 18: he’d teach a class of five children worth around $1,000 to the school and take home $50 for the hour. Working out how to find his own students took him years of trial and error.

How Swimpreneur gets you students

We’ve run our swim school since 2015 and spent more than $100,000 on advertising over the years, learning what actually brings students in. That same system now brings students to you.

We run the advertising, answer the enquiries and enrol the students. We match you with students at condos across Singapore, based on where you live and when you’re free, so you’re not crossing the island for every lesson.

The students pay you directly: you invoice and you collect. You’re your own boss, not our employee, and you set your own schedule.

“We have more assignments because some parents would prefer a female coach to teach their children who is the same gender.”

The guarantee

After you pass your final evaluation, we assign you two paying students within 60 days. If we don’t, we refund your course fee.

The conditions are set out in your enrolment agreement and explained to you before you enrol, so you know exactly where you stand before you start.

To make sure we can keep that promise, we cap every intake. We’d rather take fewer coaches than leave anyone without students.

After your first two students

Once you’re up and running, you get first access to new student enquiries, before they’re released publicly.

Students placed this way carry a referral fee, which we explain before you enrol.

“I didn’t have to spend my time trying to market myself, figure everything out alone. I could focus on becoming a better coach while the team supported me with opportunity to teach and grow.”
